Latino Mental Health

Stigma about mental illnesses still persist in the Latino community. An American Psychiatric Association survey found that 37 percent of Hispanic adults said that friends may not seek treatment because of a fear of what others may think. There was also a lack of knowledge and understanding among Hispanics about the warning signs, causes, and effective treatments for mental illnesses, such as depression.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

During the fall and winter months, some people suffer from symptoms of depression that can appear gradually or come on all at once. These symptoms often dissipate as spring arrives and stay in remission through the summer months. For some people, this is a sign that they suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
